There is no replacement for training karate at a dojo. The guidance and support of an in-person instructor is also irreplaceable. But how about the people who start  karate and quit due to a busy schedule, or because of limitations in the karate class schedule. This is where Karate training at home can make all the difference.

The biggest reasons why people quit karate are because it is too expensive, limited time, or  problems with the dojo experience. Karate training at home can address all of these challenges and make what was impossible possible for your karate training.

Too Expensive
Karate training can be expensive. It can cost hundreds of dollars a month just to train. That doesn’t included the added expenses for sparring gear, uniforms, belt testing, etc.
Often times karate training at home will be less expensive and sometimes the gear isn’t required. Many online martial arts programs offer it as an option to get the additional gear but is not a requirement. Keep in mind though there are some limitations to online karate training just as there are limitations to training at the dojo. Online martial arts focuses more on getting the correct technique down and less on sparring because you may be training on your own. We recommend finding a partner you can practice with.

Limited Time
Your training is not limited by an inconvenient class schedule when  karate training at home. Typically you can learn from a guide, online videos, or a direct video system that pairs you with an instructor to get immediate feedback. Details are extremely important when learning karate techniques so always consider training with a program that will connect you with an instructor to get feedback. Two-way communications is imperative when learning karate techniques. After all, how do you know if you are executing a technique incorrectly if you are just reading a book or watching a video with no one to offer feedback?

Problems with the Dojo
Having an in-person instructor is great for martial arts training. As it turns out though, many dojos now days have too many students in comparison to instructors. For example, if you have a class of 20 students and two instructors, it is difficult to get personalized training. The instructor won’t be able to catch and correct all your mistakes. You also run into the challenge of a class with a diverse skill sets. You will always have students who progress quicker than others which makes for an inconsistent training experience for students. If you are one who requires more assistance, you may not be able to take in all the information as the class quickly progresses. If you are a skilled student who learns quickly, you may feel that your training is limited because you have to wait for others to get on your level.
